Police say a father apparently jumped onto the subway tracks with his 5-year-old daughter during the Monday morning commute.
Police say it happened around 8 a.m. The father has been identified as 45-year-old Fernando Balbuena- Flores, according to police.
Witnesses told News 12 that Balbuena-Flores was talking on the phone, saying the words "I don't care" and "goodbye" in Spanish before jumping on the tracks with his daughter.
News 12 has also learned that Balbuena-Flores lived just blocks away from the Kingsbridge station.
The 5-year-old fell into a crevice between the tracks and survived. She is in stable condition and was treated at NYC + Health and Hospitals/Jacobi for minor injuries.
"She was in shock, the little girl, and then everyone was screaming," said witness Leidy Matina.
A good Samaritan, Jairo Torres, was caught on camera rescuing the girl from underneath the train.
