FedEx workers in the Bronx are gearing up for the start of the holiday rush.
At the FedEx shipment sorting facility near the 3rd Avenue bridge, the day began with a pep talk and some stretching.
Then it was time for sorting.
Packages fresh off the runways at Newark airport made their way onto the conveyor belt, then into the trucks based on destination and delivery route.
The manager says this Friday is 5 percent busier than a normal Friday—a warmup before Dec. 22, where FedEx predicts they'll be about 25-30 percent busier.
One courier says this season is a lot of work, but it's rewarding when it's all said and done. Record deliveries completed in an era where everything is bought online.
“We have to also come in a lot earlier. So we can sort out our boxes and our envelopes to make sure that they're delivered at a timely manner," employee Carole Canedo says.
"It's what we gear up for all year for. Is for this month," facility manager Virginia Martinez says.
The facility manager says they hired 50 extra employees for holiday packages.
