Post office remains closed after positive Legionella test
The Bronx General Post Office on the Grand Concourse has remained closed since last week after testing positive for Legionella bacteria.
Residents say they are growing frustrated with the closure, since the location has been cleaned. There has been no new cases of Legionnaires' disease in the Bronx in nearly two weeks.
Since the closure, customers have had to get their mail from post office trucks parked across the street. However, anyone with mail that arrived at the building before Aug. 8 cannot get to it.
The building is expected to open again on Monday.
News 12 reached out to post office officials and the mayor's office about the closing, but have not received a response.
A total of 20 cooling towers in the Bronx tested positive for Legionella bacteria. There have been 12 deaths and 119 total reported cases of Legionnaires' disease. Of those, 88 people have made full recoveries.
