The New York City Economic Development Corporation teamed up with Untapped Cities for a tour of Hunts Point Market, where half of the city's produce comes through.

Residents got to see food sorted, packaged and distributed.

"It really opens your eyes to how hard people work to make this city function," says Economic Development Corporation Vice President Julie Stein.

The tour was intended to teach New Yorkers about where they live, and to highlight the industrial workers who are so invaluable to daily life. New York City will invest $150 million into the market over the next 12 years.
Untapped Cities' next tour will be of the North Shore in Staten Island in July.
