Some Pelham Bay residents say they are tired of waiting for the reopening of a playground currently under construction.
Right now, parkgoers can use bocce, handball and basketball courts at Colucci Playground, as well as various fitness equipment, jungle gyms and slides.
However, in August 2016, Parks Department officials announced that new facilities would be coming to the playground. Those additions include new fencing, gates, planting beds, benches, pavement and a water supply system.
The benches, water fountains and pavement appear to be in place, but are not quite yet ready for the public. Residents say they are feeling deprived of amenities, especially as the summer months approach. Some say they are nervous about not having water fountains and sprinklers for kids to use to stay cool and hydrated.
News 12 reached out to the Parks Department, which replied with a statement saying: "We will continue to put forth our best effort to make sure that the residents who visit and utilize Colucci Park, get the best recreational space that they deserve."
The department adds that the work is being done on time. Started last August, it's expected to take about a year to be completed.
