Special celebration marks Bronx native's 103rd birthday
A Bronx native celebrated her 103rd birthday today at the Burke Avenue Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful congregant for decades.
Sarah Pauline Turner danced and smiled as she was serenaded by councilmember Andy King, who considers Turner a good friend.
Community members ate, drank and presented Turner with gifts. She also received a special surprise: her oldest daughter flew in from North Carolina.
Turner says her secret to her long and happy life is her faith.
The birthday celebrations for Turner began when she turned 100 and it’s a tradition the church plans to continue.
