Tenants want front door fixed at Pelham Houses
Tenants of the Pelham Houses are having trouble going home.
They say the front door at 920 Mace Ave. has been broken for two weeks, and their keys won't unlock it. Some tenants are blaming others for damaging the building's shared spaces.
As a spot fix, the door has been left propped open, which residents say creates a dangerous situation because trespassers can walk right in.
Resident Sylvia Knox says she leaves very early in the morning and that strangers have been in the stairwell when she was leaving.
"There is nothing more important than the safety of our residents. The building door is currently secured and staff will closely monitor the development to ensure the doors are properly locking and residents feel safe in their homes," NYCHA said in a statement.
When it's shut, the door can still be unlocked if someone inside uses the buzzer.
