Tennis learning program gets $10K grant to fund youth programs
The United States Tennis Association served up some fun and cash at the Cary Leeds Tennis Center Friday.
Over 100 children packed the courts to celebrate their home away from home receiving new funding.
The event was held to celebrate the Junior Tennis and Learning Chapter in New York receiving a $10,000 grant from the Unites States Tennis Association Foundation and Chase Bank.
"It's wonderful, it feels so great to give back to these kids and see that they're learning in addition to getting out on the court," says Jessica Kruskamp, of the NY Junior Tennis and Learning Chapter.
Through afterschool programs, camps and free tennis workshops, the NY Junior Tennis and Learning Chapter strives to teach life skills and education through tennis to underserved youth throughout the city so they can succeed both on and off the court.
"This is a great way to be active and it helps you out with your future, like for high school, you can enter a tennis team to get a scholarship," says tennis player Yulissa Luciano.
