A $1.5 million check was signed to support a new affordable senior housing project in Soundview.
This comes after Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a housing crisis in January.
The new project will convert the church space and parking lot on Randal Avenue into 167 living units, along with an improved church and an open community area.
“We are bringing senior housing that’s affordable, where our parents and grandparents can stay home and go to their local bodegas and stores,” said Council Member Amanda Farias. "We're adding that housing stock to the community and really helping with additional units in the middle of this housing crisis, is what makes this so critical for the Soundview community."
Developers say that work on the project is set to begin within the next year.
