A total of 16 pop-up vaccination sites opened across the state today in an effort to target
underserved communities.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the opening of the new center Thursday, saying it’s
a part of the state’s mission to ensure the vaccine rollout is fair and equally
reaches New Yorkers of all races and socioeconomic statuses.
He says since Jan. 15, more than 145 pop-up sites have administered more than
55,000 first vaccine doses.
Some host locations are at churches while others
are at public housing complexes and community centers. One of the sites is at Walker
Memorial Baptist Church in the Bronx.
The sites are part of Gov. Cuomo’s Vaccine Equity Task Force.
Those
waiting for their vaccine Saturday told News 12 that they appreciate the sites
being in their neighborhood.
The pop-up centers will return in three weeks to
give out the second dose.
