A 16-year-old teen was shot in the back in Morrisania Friday morning. Police say it happened just before 9:30 a.m. on 161st Street, right outside the McKinley Houses. Neighbors sent News 12 doorbell camera videos of four people dressed in all black walking down the block. Minutes later, you can hear a loud 'boom,' followed by the same four people running away, one on a scooter. News 12 spoke with the woman who called 911 who wanted to remain anonymous. She said, "One young man approached him, pulled out a weapon, fired, and as he was trying to run away, he tripped, fell. I saw he got hit in the back. He was conscious. He was OK. I told him to relax and not to move and to stay down." The teen was taken to the hospital, luckily in stable condition. News 12 overheard police at the scene calling it a potential gang retaliation. Neighbors say gangs are taking over the area. "All these kids are doing all their things. I mean, I don't know what to say anymore. I just walk and mind my business, that's the best that I can do," said Albert Santiago, a Morrisania resident. "These kids, I don't know where they're getting guns from - from everywhere. From the parents, I don't know," said Rosa Rodriguez, another Morrisania resident. Neighbors are calling on parents to discipline their kids and for there to be more anti-violence programming.
