The daily takeover by tourists continues on the stairs along West 167th Street as they take selfies and photos imitating the Joker.
Brayan Daniel Feliz, a resident in the Bronx, is working to make sure people who live in the area are not forgotten.
Two weeks ago, Feliz began the 167 Voices Project. He started gathering photos and personal stories connected to the steps. He wants to eventually turn the collection into a public display along the walls of the stairs.
His goal is for the focus to be more on the community and not on the movie.
Feliz also surveys tourists and visitors about where they hailed from to understand more of the bigger picture of gentrification.
Thirty Bronx residents have taken part in the project so far.
