As the cases of coronavirus continue to surge in New York City, a 17-year-old is reaching out to the elderly that may need help during the crisis.
Maeve Foley is hanging up flyers hoping to be a helping hand. "I just kind of felt weird not being able to help out or do anything about it, so it seems like the best I could do with my abilities,” said Foley.

She is offering to go to the grocery store, pharmacy or anywhere else an elderly person, or anyone at risk, might need.
"I've basically just been walking through the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods, putting up flyers or reaching out to my friends and telling them that if they have any elderly friends or family members who live in Brooklyn, to give me a call,” said Foley.
Foley says she is currently on her school’s spring break and that with her free time, she felt it could be a good way to make a difference.
"My parents raised me so that helping others has kind of been second nature so when I saw how much Brooklyn is being affected by this, I knew I wanted to do something to help. And I wasn't really sure what because it's not that I know a whole lot about the virus or can affect large scale change, but I figured just doing something small is better than doing nothing,” said Foley.
She says she has had people reach out saying that they too would be happy to help with deliveries.
