The Powerball jackpot is up to $1.8B in installments ahead of Saturday night's drawing, or $826M in a lump sum of cash.
It is the second biggest jackpot in Powerball history, trailing only the $2.04B prize from 2022. The odds of winning are one in 292.2 million.
In comparison, the National Weather Service says there is a one in 13,300 chance of being struck by lightning in a person's lifetime, one in 662,000 people in the world win an Olympic medal, and doctors have put the odds of giving birth to identical quadruplets at one in 15 million.
