A Bronx mother says she and her family of five have been stuck in limbo for weeks after a fire tore through their apartment at 1777 Grand Concourse on Jan. 31.

Olivia says the fire left behind charred family photos, damaged toys and severe destruction throughout the home, forcing her family out and into a hotel.

According to the tenant, an order to vacate was not issued until Feb. 19, nearly three weeks after the fire. Since then, she says the family has been staying in an HPD-provided hotel, grateful to have shelter but struggling to live day to day.

She says there is nowhere to cook, little space for the children and the family has been spending hundreds of dollars on food while waiting for answers.

Olivia says she has repeatedly tried to contact building management but has not received a response. She says no repairs appear to have started, and the family has not been given any timeline for when they may be able to return home.

HPD says the agency issued a violation for fire damage throughout the apartment and that the landlord is responsible for remediating it as soon as possible so the tenant can safely return.

News 12 called and emailed management, but did not receive a response.

The family has started a GoFundMe for additional support.
