Two students in the New York City area are among a group of dozens of applicants nominated by U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to the United States service academies.
Seventeen-year-old Phoebe Li, of Brooklyn, and 17-year-old Sayad Diambou, of the Bronx, are two of more than 30 students nominated from across the state.
If chosen, Diambou will attend the U.S. Naval Academy where he hopes to become a surface warfare officer in the Navy, while Li will attend the U.S Merchant Marine academy to study law.
The two say they're anxiously waiting for the decision of acceptance to be made, which could come between now and April.
