It is one of the biggest meals of the year, but the price tag of Thanksgiving dinner appears to be a bit more manageable in 2024.
According to consumer expert Caleb Silver, this year's savings center around the centerpiece of the day.
"It's the turkey prices that are down about 16%. That's going to save you some money," said Silver.
A little extra money in your pocket may mean an extra side dish. According to Silver those are often the cheapest part of the meal. He touted the following prices for some of those items.
"We're looking at about $2.61 for a bag of cranberries right now. Sweet potatoes are up about 4 percent, $3 for a big bag of sweet potatoes. We know carrots and celery pretty much flat from last year, just about a dollar a pound. If you're looking at bread prices you're looking at around $2 for a loaf."
Hosting the holiday is also making your guests feel at home. If you are trying to add a centerpiece to the table, Silver suggests using some of the food items you are stocking up on anyway.
"You can put a beautiful centerpiece together with some pumpkins, some gourds and some corn. That's not going to cost you more than $25 to $30."
Between good food and good company there is a lot to be thankful for, especially when a full belly doesn't empty your wallet.
