The NYPD's 48th Precinct in Claremont held a prayer vigil Friday night to call for an end to violence ahead of the summer months.
Clergymen from all over the city held prayers as community members discussed recent violence.
“It’s very alarming and concerning and I felt that we needed to come together," said Cameron Rivera, president of the 48th Precinct Community Council.
Both murders and shootings are up this year in the 48th Precinct compared to last year, according to police data.
“Let’s get out there and talk to these young people before they pick up these guns, before they stab somebody and shoot somebody and then we will do better," said Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley.
Officials announced during the vigil that 238 new officers will be added to the Bronx from May's graduating class.
