Two people have died and 58 have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease in Central Harlem, according to the NYC Health Department.

The disease is a type of pneumonia caused by the bacteria Legionella, which grows in warm water found in cooling towers, whirlpool tubs and large air-conditioning systems.

Anyone in the zip codes 10027, 10030, 10035, 10037, and 10039 and bordering communities should see a health care professional if they experience flu-like symptoms.
