A long-vacant property in Shirley has finally been torn down.

The building on William Floyd Parkway was demolished by Brookhaven Town on Tuesday.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico says the land will be acquired by Suffolk County.

The county plans to preserve it as open space, along the canal leading to John's Neck Creek, according to Panico.
