Sussex County dog dumping suspect appears in court as rescuers push for maximum sentence

The man accused of dumping dozens of small dogs around Sussex County appeared in court as animal rescuers and supporters gathered for the hearing.
Joshua Ciemniecki, along with two other people, faces animal cruelty charges after more than 30 dogs were rescued and two were found dead.
At least one rescue group attended the court appearance. Advocates also brought two of the rescued dogs to the courthouse.
According to rescuers, the suspect was denied a pretrial motion. Prosecutors also asked for an extension to continue gathering evidence, noting that veterinary bills and recovery expenses for the dogs are still ongoing.
The next court date is scheduled for May 18.
Meanwhile, a petition started by The Hound Hunters of New Jersey has gathered more than 6,000 signatures calling for the maximum sentence for Ciemniecki. Organizers say they hope to surpass 10,000 signatures by next month's court date.
