Five people were rescued from the rising tide near a sandbar in Milford on Sunday.

Officials were called after several people became stranded by the incoming tide near the sandbar.

The incident began when two individuals walking on the sandbar were caught off guard by the rapidly rising water.

When crews arrived, they found five individuals in distress in the water on the west side of the sandbar. The crews rescued all five and brought them safely to shore.

Three bystanders entered the water during the incident in an effort to help the original two individuals.

Two patients were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Responders said they were concerned about signs of hypothermia due to the water temperature and the amount of time spent in the water.
