Don't blink-- you might just lose a tire.

Residents and drivers in Tremont are sounding the alarm over a large pothole at East 178th Street and Webster Avenue that they say is becoming increasingly dangerous.

The pothole is large enough to expose the concrete and cobblestone foundation beneath the roadway, but drivers say it can be difficult to spot until the last second.

“You don’t really notice it until you drive up and see there’s an indent in the road,” said one driver.

Another delivery driver, Jose, said he nearly collided with another vehicle while trying to avoid the hole.

“I seen it, so I had to cut my wheel right because I was scared my front tire was too heavy for that hole,” he said.

Jose says hitting a pothole of that size could leave drivers stranded with costly repairs and long waits for assistance.

News 12 has reached out to the New York City Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection to determine whether the agencies are aware of the issue and whether repairs are planned.
