A Bronx woman who survived a brutal stabbing is once again waiting for justice after her accused attacker's trial was postponed for another month.

Christopher Joseph appeared before a judge on Wednesday in Bronx Criminal Court. He is accused of stabbing Kaitlynn Burman, a former friend, 22 times in March of last year, leaving her for dead while her child was in another room.

Authorities said Joseph was later found with Burman's phone and cash and was arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and other offenses.

News 12 has reported on several previous court hearings in which Joseph was released, sparking concern from Burman and her supporters as she continues to recover from the attack.

Burman says she is still dealing with both physical and emotional trauma.

"Physically, I still have difficulties with my hands. I have difficulties with my face," she said. "Mentally, things are very hard. I don't go outside by myself. I just feel like something is going to happen every time I'm outside."

She also claims Joseph has been harassing her online.

"He has tried to go on my social media to like and unlike pictures, friend me and unfriend me," Burman said. "I don't know how the courts don't see that as a violation of the order of protection."

The trial was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, but has now been delayed until July 29. Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of 10 years in prison followed by five years of parole if Joseph is convicted. Burman, however, says that punishment is not enough.

"Twenty-two years would sound fair," she said. "I feel like 10 years that they're trying to offer is not enough."

Community members have rallied behind Burman, including Bishop Boyde Singletary, who says they will continue pushing for what they believe is justice.

"This is not justice. We need justice, and we will continue to fight for her until we get it," he said.

Burman's order of protection against Joseph has been extended through Oct. 27 as the case proceeds.
