16-year-old boy shot in Morrisania; police search for suspect

Police are searching for the person who allegedly shot a 16-year-old boy in the Morrisania section of the Bronx on Sunday afternoon.

The shooting happened near the corner of Fulton Avenue and East 173rd Street, where investigators continued processing the scene for several hours. Yellow police tape remained in place, and multiple shell casings could be seen on the ground as detectives examined evidence.

According to police, the 16-year-old was shot in the right leg. He was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

The shooting occurred just steps from the Crotona Pool, which closed for the remainder of the day following the incident.

Neighbors who spoke with News 12, but declined to appear on camera, said they were heartbroken to learn a teenager had been shot so close to their homes.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon, and the investigation remains in its early stages.

Police have not released additional information about the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.
