A 19-year-old man is facing charges for his role in an early morning crash that injured two NYPD officers, police say.
Gamal Ali, of the Bronx, was taken into custody Saturday. Police say Ali was driving a 2026 BMW M2 - without a valid driver's license - when he rear-ended the police car, causing it to overturn and burst into flames.
The crash happened just after 1 a.m. Friday on the Bruckner Expressway near East 144th Street.
Police say two officers were rushed to a nearby hospital. They are expected to recover.
According to the NYPD, Ali stayed at the scene of the crash.
The teen now faces multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, reckless driving and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.
