'They made us proud.' Bayonne honors Little League team with parade celebration

Bayonne rolled out the red carpet Sunday for its Little League team to celebrate the players with a hometown parade after their history-making run.
The parade made its way down Broadway, where players tossed hats and baseballs to the crowds who lined the streets to cheer them on.
The team became the first from Bayonne to compete in the Little League World Series by winning two games during its run.
While the team’s World Series journey eventually came to an end, there was still plenty to celebrate. The players won a state championship and finished among the top six Little League teams in the country.

For many in the community, the parade was a chance to show the players just how much their run meant to the city.
“They made Bayonne proud. They made us proud,” said Mary and David Stevenson.
Players also said seeing the community turn out to support them was a special experience.
“The whole town coming out to support us and us being on a float. It just feels awesome,” said player Connor Oliva.
The celebration continued at the baseball field, where family, fans and local and state leaders gathered to honor the team.
"They earned everything they did, said Bayonne Mayor, Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski. "They worked hard for their work down, stepped up and the community stepped in and worked right behind them."
As the crowd continued cheering, one message remained clear: Bayonne is still behind its Little Leaguers.
