Within the last 24 hours, multiple fires have broken out across The Bronx. The latest one erupted in Morris Heights on E. 177 St. Citizen app video from a distance showed the excessive smoke coming from the ground and caution tape isolating the area. The E. 177th St. fire comes just a few hours after another one breaking out in Longwood on Prospect Avenue. A huge FDNY presence was seen and firefighters were spraying the ground with water and clouds of smoke billowing onto the street. Tuesday afternoon, the root cause of a warehouse fire started in a manhole. That fire sent one firefighter to the hospital who is expected to be OK. It took firefighters just under an hour to put those flames out but the damage was already extensive.
In lieu of the latest manhole fires, Con Edison released a few safety tips attributing these fires to road salt and electric equipment mixing. If you see a smoking manhole stay away and call 911, if you smell gas or see smoke inside of a building leave and call 911.
