The family of the Northwell Health employee who was fatally shot Thursday is in mourning and calling for justice in her death.

The shooting happened just after 4 p.m. on Marcus Avenue in a parking garage that is used by Northwell Health and other offices in the same building.

Police say the victim was Amelia Laguerre, of St. Albans.

"Amelia is a beautiful, beautiful person she's everything you can ask for in a daughter," said her mother, Emily Laguerre, on Saturday. She was surrounded by family and friends inside her St. Albans home.

They were all in disbelief as they come to grips with the fatal shooting of the 33-year-old.

"She never bothered nobody, she was never in trouble," said Amelia's sister, Jamillah Bennett.

The Northwell Health employee and young mother leaves behind 6-year-old son Mason, who they said will now be surrounded by his father and family who love him.

"No son should have to know his own mother can't be around. I hope they catch him and he gets what he deserves," cried Bryan Duncan, the boy's father.

News 12 was told the 33-year-old was part of the administrative staff for 10 years and was working in that building on Marcus Avenue in North New Hyde Park.

People that Laguerre was with saw her arguing with someone several times that day, according to police. Authorities say Laguerre took a break from work and went to her car. They say the suspect was waiting for her and shot her five times.

She was brought to the hospital and died a short time later. Investigators say the shooting was a targeted one and that the shooter is someone she knew.

One of Amelia Laguerre's friends said he was on the phone with her when the shooting happened and heard the gunfire. Through their pain and anguish, the family also wants answers and justice for Amelia.

"I dont' know how anybody can go and take someone else's life," Emily Laguerre said.

The family said she was the type of person who was always made others happy.

"She was just a wonderful person and had a great soul and Mason has the best mom," said her cousin Jahnella Parker.

"There was nothing she couldn't' accomplish. She was a positive person," added friend Lisa Krebs.

Northwell Health told staff the shooting was an apparent domestic incident. Police have not released a description of any possible suspect.
