According to AAA, the Halloween holiday is the deadliest day for young kids involving road crashes.

Federal traffic data shows that nearly 50 young kids from the ages of 0 - 17 were killed in road crashes from 2006 to 2020.

AAA says Halloween is far more deadly than the day with the second highest child pedestrian fatalities, which they say is on Sept. AAA recommends avoiding neighborhood shortcuts, especially where trick-or-treaters are likely to be present.

Drivers are also encouraged to be aware of children in the street and those in dark costumes who may not be paying attention to traffic.

Drivers should also never drink and drive. Alcohol impaired drivers made up about one-third of those fatal collisions, AAA reports.
