ALERT CENTER: New York City DOC announces death of 2nd inmate in custody in less than a week

News 12 has learned a second Rikers Island inmate has died in custody in the last week.
Terrence Moore, 55, is the second Rikers inmate to die in the last two weeks while in Department of Correction custody.
This morning, News 12 has learned Moore was attending his court appearance in Manhattan when he suffered a seizure in the holding area.
Last week, another inmate on Rikers Island also died in custody.
The agency says Ramel Powell, 38, was pronounced dead after 2 a.m. Wednesday, but have not provided additional information.
The department says they are conducting a full investigation into Powell’s death.
As for the death of Moore, the DOC Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie released a statement saying "Our deepest sympathies are with the loved ones of Mr. Moore. We will fully investigate this tragic event to determine the circumstances surrounding his death."
