All westbound LIE lanes have reopened after a crash Friday afternoon.
The New York State Department of Transportation says that the crash happened near Exit 53.
Traffic on North Service Road was shut down at Commack Road for a single-vehicle crash that seriously injured the driver, according to Suffolk police. The vehicle was travelling westbound on the LIE in Dix Hills when it left the roadway, hit a pole and then overturned.
Police say the 38-year-old woman who was driving the car was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip with serious injuries.
A white Honda was seen being taken away by a tow truck just before the road reopened.
Drivers were stuck in traffic for hours until the service road and the LIE were reopened around 6:30 p.m.
One driver said it took them two hours to drive what normally takes 20 minutes.
