Allerton woman: Thieves are targeting neighborhood mailbox

A mailbox is being targeted by thieves in Allerton, a neighbor tells News 12.
Bobbie Brooks says she's making sure to get the word out on Mace Avenue to be aware of a mailbox that has had checks stolen out of it.
She says that along with rent and bills not making it to their destination, a check they had written out to St. Jude was stolen and tampered with – resulting in $2,000 being stolen from their bank account.
Brooks filed a report with police. The 49th Precinct posted on social media to warn others: "Thieves are looking for checks and money orders to wash and cash at your expense."
The United States Postal Service tells News 12 that a postal inspector is currently investigating the matter and encourages people to report any suspicious activity at their mailbox.
