An annual run in honor of heroes killed in the line of duty is going virtual to ensure they'll always be remembered.
After a quick warm-up and social distanced check-in, members of the NYPD and families of those killed in the line of duty ran through Van Cortlandt Park Tuesday in the annual Heroes 5K memorial run. It is normally held in May, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
Lt. Emmanuel Kwo, who runs the NYPD Sports Unit, organized the event and ran in honor of Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo.
"I was the recipient of one of the greatest acts of love another person can do for another when Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo gave his life in the line of duty for me, so, for me, it's incredibly important that I'm here and that I let his family know that he's always loved. He's always thought about and he's always remembered," Lt. Kwo said.
