Thousands of bicyclists rode through the borough Sunday in the 13th Annual Tour de Bronx.
The ride is often called the largest "free cycling" event in the northeast. It attracts up to 5,000 participants each year. Bicyclists choose between a 25- or 40-mile route.
Riders took in the sights of St. Ann's, one of the borough's oldest churches, the historic Victorian homes of the Longwood neighborhood and Yankees Stadium.The ride ends each year with a gathering that includes music at the New York Botanical Garden.Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr., the Bronx Tourism Council and the group Transportation Alternatives sponsored the Tour de Bronx. The first 150 children at the event received free bike helmets as part of National Bike Month.
