The Archdiocese of New York released a list of clergy members it says are credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor.
Lawyers have been calling for this list to be released since February when the Anderson List was released.
Jeff Anderson & Associates created the list, which consisted of more than 100 Catholics who worked for the Archdiocese who were accused of sexual misconduct with children.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan was encouraged to release his own list. He did and published it online Friday.
Several of the religious leaders on the cardinal’s list are believed to have served in the Bronx in the past – including Bishop John Jenik, who served at Our Lady of Refuge.
The Archdiocese of New York's list names bishops, priests and deacons. Dolan says Catholics can rest assured that no priest or deacon of the Achdiocese of New York with a credible claim of abuse against a minor is currently in ministry.
In a letter he says: "I pledge again today that I will do all in my power to ensure the safety of our young people, and to react with sympathy, understanding, and respect towards those who come forward with an allegation of abuse."
It goes on: "I once again urge anyone who has an allegation of abuse of a minor to go immediately to the district attorney to report it."
