Hundreds of current and future educators took part in a teacher hiring and networking event at Fordham University on Tuesday.
Aspiring teachers got to meet one-on-one with school principals and hiring managers from across the Bronx who are looking to fill crucial roles.
A total of 100 Bronx public schools were represented at the event, which was put together by the Department of Education. It focused on teachers who were certified or working toward certification in high-need subjects like math, science and special education.
"It's one of our hardest to staff boroughs, it doesn't rank in the top three in terms of interest for potential teachers who are looking to teach in the borough, but we know that's not the case, the Bronx is an amazing place to teach and to work,” said Chimere Stephens, senior director of recruitment for the city’s public schools.
The DOE will be holding two more hiring events in May and June.
