Authorities have busted 28 people in a narcotics distribution ring tied to areas in and around New York City.

Attorney General Letitia James and the DEA made the announcement Thursday.

Investigators are calling the bust 'Operation Oxy-Concourse' because of the volume of oxycodone pills sold on or near the Grand Concourse. The drug ring also allegedly operated in Brooklyn, Westchester and parts of Connecticut.

The two indictments charge the 28 alleged co-conspirators with 181 counts, including conspiracy, criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The first indictment revolves around Wilkins Almonte. He is accused of acting as a collecting manager and distributor with his brother, Esteban Almonte.

Elba Sanchez is named as the main supplier of pills in the second indictment. Sanchez is accused of purchasing monthly prescriptions for large amounts of oxycodone pills.

The attorney general says an extensive lawsuit was filed last month against the manufacturers and distributors of opioids.

The 10-month investigation shows that the drug ring sold more than 23,000 pills worth more than $2 million street value. Investigators were able to recover nearly 1,200 pills.
