With parents across the borough getting ready for back-to-school shopping, News 12's Lenneia Batiste visited the J.C. Penney in Co-op City to get the scoop on this year's trends.
General manager Vicky Chernyak says the biggest efforts go into the outfit students plan to wear on the first day of school.
"What kids always want is...to feel fresh when they go back to school," Chernyak says.
She recommends novelty T-shirts and activewear, which are both in style and comfortable.
For the boys, Chernyak says her store has a variety of shorts to choose from. For the girls, she says leggings are still in style.
"You can get every color under the rainbow," she says. "Get some tops to match for $7.99 and have a couple of cute outfits for the season."
Other recommendations include denim button-downs, camouflage jackets -- and for students who have to wear uniforms, accessories like school-colored cardigans, bracelets and necklaces.
