Her body was discovered Sunday inside an apartment on Webster Avenue in Morrisania around 3:47 p.m.
Police say the 53-year-old woman suffered burns to nearly 70 percent of her body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the woman told her fiancé's son she was going to make food in the kitchen.
