Bakers from across the five boroughs put their skills to the test Sunday at the annual Gingerbread NYC Bakeoff.
The Museum of the City of New York in Manhattan organized the event.
“We put a challenge out there for bakers to create a display that would best represent either their neighborhood, their community or their borough,” said Jerry Gallagher, the museum’s COO.
Some people in the competition were professionals, including L'Appartement 4F and Egidio's Bakery in the Bronx, which is one of New York’s oldest bakeries.
Other competitors were baking enthusiasts like Ida Kruetzer.
“I make a lot of sourdough bread, I make birthday cakes for friends... Never gingerbread before,” she said.
The gingerbread houses can be seen in person at the Museum of the City of New York in Manhattan until Jan 8.
