The Yankees, a baseball training center in Westchester Square and a summer league team are pitching in to help the Puerto Rico hurricane relief effort.
TM Baseball Training Academy teamed up with Hank's Yanks and the big-league Yankees to collect hundreds of boxes of supplies that shipped out Wednesday to families in need. Volunteers included members of the Steinbrenner family and former Yankee captain Willie Randolph.
Owners Tony and Jessie Melendez say they began their drive after hearing from friends and relatives in Puerto Rico that supplies weren't reaching their hometown fast enough. They sent the collected supplies to a family member who will distribute them when they arrive Friday.
