Bay Ridge neighbors gathered Sunday night for a vigil at the American Veterans Memorial Pier to remember those who died on Sept. 11.
Flags lined the pier where there was a somber atmosphere as neighbors gathered to pay tribute to all those who died 21 years ago.
Residents also recalled the images of horror that unfolded that day.
They also remember the smoke from the devastation that was once visible from the pier on 9/11.
The hurt from Sept. 11, 2001 still reverberates throughout the years as friends and family who were exposed to the harmful elements from the Twin Towers continue to die from related illnesses.
While neighbors said they will never forget the lives that were lost that day, they also said they want to remember the courage, resilience, and unity that came from the tragedy as New Yorkers continue to emerge stronger in the face of devastating loss.
