Best of Bronx: Norwood's sole Irish pub marks 50 years
An Irish pub that once stood among many in Norwood is proudly celebrating its 50th year.
McDwyer's Pub on East 204th Street is the only Irish bar left in the neighborhood, but the owner isn't planning on going anywhere.
"I love Norword. I hope I get another 50," says owner Eamonn McDwyer.
He emigrated from Ireland in 1959 at age 21. While working in midtown, he says he saved enough money to purchase what would become his bar.
Over the years, he says he watched the clientele change, but he's more than happy to serve anyone who wants a drink. "Now, I call this the little U.N.," he says.
For St. Patrick's Day, the bar served cabbage and corned beef on the house.
