A Bronx native continues to keep his community safe as a decades-old member of his building's Tenant Patrol Association.
James Graham calls himself the eyes and ears of his community at the Bronx River Houses on East 174th Street and Harrod Avenue. He has been patrolling and servicing the complex for more than 30 years.
Though NYCHA installed bulletproof glass windows and security cameras in the lobbies and elevators in the early 90s, Graham says crime continues to be a problem. He says, however, that crime has gone down a lot since the Tenant Patrol Association became active.
Edward Felder, vice president of the Tenant Patrol Association, says he hopes younger residents in the building will follow in Graham's footsteps.
The group plans to hold a meeting this month, where they hope to recruit up to 15 more members.
