Incumbent Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. is facing a primary challenge from two fellow Democrats as he seeks a third term in office.

One of them is Camella Price, a former chief of staff for state Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. as well as a former staffer in the borough president's office.

She says she wants to see the borough become a safe haven for families in needs, in terms of women's rights. She is also an animal rescue advocate and supports programs to reintegrate former inmates into society.

The other challenger is Avery Selkridge, who did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment.

Diaz Jr. entered public office in 1997 as a state assemblyman. He became borough president in 2009 and won re-election in 2013. If he wins a third term, he says he wants to attract positive development to the borough, noting that during his second term the Bronx hosted nearly $13 billion and 70 million square feet of development projects. Other goals include creating equity in education and taking on the borough's infamous ranking as the unhealthiest county in New York state.

The primary vote will be held on Sept. 12.
