Breakdancing, a style of dance
created in the Bronx, is set to debut at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Once called B-Boying or B-Girling,
it's an athletic style of street dancing created by Black and Latinx youth in
the 1970s.
Breakdancing mainly consists of
four main movements: the toprock, downrock, power moves and freezes.
Its name comes from the
"break" in a DJ's set that dancers would freestyle to.
The dance eventually evolved to
become a staple of hip-hop in the U.S. and globally, and has been seen in
dozens of films and media since its creation.
In December, the International
Olympic Committee declared it an official sport.
Breakdancing will be instead called
breaking during the Olympics.
