Morning rain, mild temperatures Monday in the Bronx
31ds agoHere’s what you need to know:
- It’s very mild this morning. Temperatures are in the mid to upper 60s.
- Today will be our last warm day for a while. It will be breezy at times with plenty of sunshine. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s.
- The dry conditions persist into the weekend. The latest drought monitor comes out today and we'll see if things have worsened or stayed the same due to the lack of rainfall. With the ongoing drought, fire danger will continue to be an issue through Friday due to mild temperatures, low humidity and windy conditions. Besides the dry weather, Summer is gone for now and Fall returns this weekend with temperatures nosediving into the 50s and 60s.
- Some much needed rain returns this weekend into next week. A cold front will move into our area Sunday night into Monday morning. There's a chance that this front can interact with the leftovers of Rafael in the gulf. Potential impacts and rain totals are based on if we can tap into some of that tropical moisture. Besides Monday's rain, there are more chances of rain by the end of next week. Stay tuned for updates.
- WATCHING THE TROPICS: There are two areas of interest in the Atlantic that have a chance of development in the next 7 days. Hurricane Rafael is still a strong Cat 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. After making landfall in Western Cuba last night, Rafael will continue to bring a swath of heavy rain and flash flooding to western Cuba through today. The track has shifted South and it is now forecasted to meander in the gulf coast and weaken this weekend into early next week. It's still too soon what potential impacts Rafael can bring to the Gulf of Mexico. Stay tuned for updates.
