A Brighton Beach restaurant is giving back to health care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic by providing them with warm, nutritious meals to thank them for their service.
The Wise Bar and Grill is delivering meals to the workers they are calling heroes.
"Today is a very hard time for everyone and I see what's going on in the hospitals. So we decided with all my workers to do the best to help in this hard situation," says Gera Wise, owner of Wise Bar & Grill.
The restaurant is preparing 100 meals, consisting of chicken soup, fish, mashed potatoes and salad for the staff at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park.
Health care workers say they are hoping for the outbreak to subside, but for now, having the meals helps them to worry about one less thing.
Wise says the initiative started almost a week ago, delivering hundreds of meals to health care workers around the city.
In the hope of continuing the effort, they launched a website where they are collecting donations.
Wise says he plans to continue delivering meals until the outbreak subsides.
