Broken hydrant causes flooding, damages cars in University Heights
A broken fire hydrant that was left open in the wake of a massive fire sent water rushing down a staircase in the University Heights section of the Bronx.
The water gushing from the hydrant led to flooded roads, leaving some cars partially underwater.
The power from the hydrant also caused damage to cars in its path.
The hydrant was left open after crews responded to a fire on West 183rd Street last night.
The FDNY says the hydrant was broken and they had to reach out the Department of Environmental Protection, which said the roadway was excavated in order to shut off the water.
